Flame On, or not

The Spark
Mike decided to “optimize airflow.” He rearranged vents, shifted coal baskets, and pulled out a measuring tape. “We’re losing efficiency,” he said. Efficiency? This isn’t Rocket Science; it’s dinner.
The Burn
He huddled over the pit, tracking smoke flow like it was classified data. I watched from the porch with a beer and a sense of foreboding. The air got weird. Too much draft, not enough discipline. The fire farted, coughed, then sulked out completely.
The Lesson in the Smoke
Sometimes improvement ruins a good thing. Not everything needs a tune-up. Some fires just need trust. We build whole lives chasing perfection, when all we needed was consistency.
The Rant Wrap-Up
He stared at the dead coals, then at me. “You wanna start it again?”
I handed him the lighter. “You built it. You fix it.”
